Guys, I’m so excited. I just booked flights for our next big trip… Japan! And even better? I feel really good about the price. Flying from Seattle to anywhere is usually pretty pricey. If it’s not on the West Coast, it’s gonna cost you.
So, when I started looking into flights from Seattle to Tokyo, I was not surprised to see that round-trip nonstop flights would be over $1050 / person. Nope, not surprised… just not particularly pleased. I begrudgingly started budgeting for $1400 / person.
Which is why I’m so excited to say that I booked our round-trip flights on Delta for only $691 / person! We do have a short layover in Portland on our way there, but it’s nonstop on the way home. Plus, it’s a Delta flight, so I’m excited to rack up those miles!
How did I do it? NextVacay.
On Saturday I got an email in my Inbox from NextVacay, a service I signed up for last year to torture myself. NextVacay is a paid service (only $25/year!) that sends you customized alerts about discounted flights from your city to wherever you want to go. I usually get a few of these a week telling me about insanely good airfare deals to places all over the world. I usually just ignore them because I’m broke… but the one I got on Saturday happened to be for a deal on a flight from Seattle to Tokyo!
I opened the email and clicked the link to the Google listing, and was shocked to see the nonstop deal for under $700 / person! Less than half the price of what I was usually seeing via my Google Flight Alerts.
I got online and booked right away. And the crazy part? I checked the price of the flight on Google today… it’s back up above $1000 / person, meaning I’ve saved at least $600 on these flights for the two of us. I feel pretty justified in that $25/year fee…
All that said, I am excited to say that we are officially headed to Japan in March 2019! We haven’t left North America since 2016, and I am sooooo ready for this trip! Bring on all of the Japan travel tips!
