I recently planned a birthday surprise for my best friend: Hot tub boats in Seattle on Lake Union! It was such a fun day activity on the lake and we had perfect weather! We got to jet around Lake Union on this sunny 60-degree day, see the Space Needle, and just enjoy a day with friends – a novelty in these Covid times.
I 100% would recommend this activity for Seattle locals and visitors alike! Even for a Seattle local like me it was a real treat to experience downtown Seattle from the water.
What are Seattle hot tub boats?
Seattle Hot tub boats are exactly what they sound like… a boat with a hot tub in the center! The boats are big enough for 6 people and have a little bit of deck space so that you can sit out of the water when you get too warm. You drive the boat around Lake Union using a little joystick on the side of the deck. As for your stuff, there is an inside area of the boat to keep belongings and some small dry boxes for valuables. The boat also comes with a blue tooth speaker!
What to know
Who can drive the hot tub boat?
Unlike other boat rentals, you don’t need a boating license or anything to drive these boats! Since the boats go less than 5 miles per hour, anyone over 18 years old can drive them. It’s super easy to navigate and get around the whole lake!
What about food and drink?
You can bring your own food and drink aboard the boat, but alcohol is not allowed for liability reasons. It’s okay though – you’ll still have a blast! We brought poke and plenty of water and enjoyed a late lunch on the lake.
What if it rains?
This is Seattle, so you may have to be okay with some rain. We were lucky enough to have superb weather when we visited, but honestly… hot tubs in the rain are a blast! If you’re really hoping for good weather pay attention to the forecast, and cancel more than 7 days in advance for a full refund.
What about a space to change afterwards?
After you dock the boat there will be a warm shower running for you, and space for you to change. From there, I recommend heading straight to dinner/lunch/happy hour!
How much does it cost?
You can rent a hot tub boat for a 2-hour block for $350 plus tax. This makes it a bit of a splurge, but if you go with friends and divide it among 4 or 6 people, it’s actually not too bad!
